SAINT JOHN, N.B. — What does sustainable growth look like in Greater Saint John and who gets to help shape it? Sustainable Saint John is bringing that conversation to the Saint John Arts Centre on October 1st as the organization relaunches with a new board and a fresh calendar of events.
The organization’s relaunch event takes place October 1 at the Saint John Arts Centre. Filmmaker and entrepreneur Greg Hemmings will deliver the keynote, followed by a panel featuring Court Edeburn, President and CEO of Saint John Airport; Samir Yammine, Director of Asset Management and Environmental Performance with the City of Saint John; Brent McGovern, Chief Operating Officer of Port Saint John; and Maria Murphy VP of Development and Social Sustainability with Bloom Funding. A cash bar and networking will follow.
“The challenges facing Saint John–how we grow, how we use our resources, and who benefits–demand work within our organizations and across them,” says Maria Murphy, President of Sustainable Saint John. “On October 1st, we’ll hear from people who help steward some of our region’s most important shared assets. I want people to leave knowing what’s happening across the region, who they should be talking to, and where we could be doing more together.”
The relaunch also introduces Sustainable Saint John’s board: Maria Murphy (Bloom Funding), Ashley Anthony (Climate Reality Canada), Roxanne MacKinnon (ACAP Saint John), Alexa Bailey (The Smart Energy Company), Jo-Anne MacDonald (Imperial Theatre, Act III Productions, Delightfully Unruly Art), Dan Thompson (Italic Inc.), and Jenny Keleher (Climative).
From the stories Greg Hemmings tells on screen to the decisions being made at the airport, the port, and City Hall, the evening will look at how our region is changing and what it will take to shape that change together.
Beyond October 1, Sustainable Saint John is planning Sustainability 101 for Small Business, winter Sustainability Socials, an Earth Day cleanup, a Community Capacity Building Training, and tree planting with ACAP Saint John. The goal is to make it easier for people doing related work to find each other, share useful ideas and resources, and turn a good conversation into something they can act on.
